We have made it to the year's final quarter, and with that, we recognize our Quarter 3 Best of the Best! For the final Best of the Best of the year, we recognize a staff and student from Horton High School.
Chandler Newman, a Senior at HHS, was nominated by multiple staff members. "Chandler is an incredibly talented individual in many diverse disciplines. He is incredibly intelligent in the classroom, a committed athlete, and a phenomenal performer as a singer and actor. He is always going above and beyond to succeed and always aims to bring others up with him. He is supportive of his peers and truly a team player! He is a loyal friend to those around him. My classroom absolutely does not have the same atmosphere if he is absent because he brings energy, humor, and support for his peers." Another staff member included "Chandler is a leader. He works extremely hard in the classroom and out. He is a leader on my Forensics team. He is always willing to take the leadership role and set a positive example. He will respond with "I got you, Bush," and I know he does. He has been an anchor from day one when he performed. He keeps everyone laughing and focused. When I think of Chandler Newman, I think of the following words: leader, intelligent, motivated, driven, and happy. These words are not only for my speech team and the classroom but even when no one is looking. He has us all when he is around us."
Our staff member for Best of the Best is Mrs. Kerrie Howard. Mrs. Howard teaches Science at Horton High School, but many of her students both past and present would say that they learn much more from her. "Mrs. Howard is truly the Best of the Best and committed to constantly getting better! It's easy to see Mrs. Howard's love of science and her excitement to share it with her students. She has very high standards for class and her students, but always has a plan and system in place to help students achieve success. Her lessons and notes are intentionally designed to help students prepare for quizzes and tests, but she continues to work to do more. This year Mrs. Howard tried a new strategy that she had read about to help students who may experience test anxiety. She allowed students to review the test for a few minutes and discuss and ask questions of anyone in the room, including her before the test actually began. Multiple students shared that this was really helpful to them. Mrs. Howard's willingness to continue to hone her craft and improve student outcomes is why she is Best of the Best."
We are honored to recognize these two "Best of the Best" in South Brown County schools.
