From the Principal's Desk: August 31, 2024
Dear Horton High School Families,
As we wrap up August and move into September, there are a few important announcements and upcoming events to keep on your radar.
No School on Monday, September 2:
Please remember that there will be no school on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day. We hope you enjoy the long weekend and come back refreshed for the week ahead.
Special Speaker on Tuesday, September 3:
We are excited to welcome Chet Kuplen to Horton High School on Tuesday, September 3. Chet will be speaking to our 7th-12th grade students on the topic "Think Before You Text." Over the past five years, Chet has shared his message with many schools across Kansas, and it is highly relevant to our students as they navigate the challenges of social media. His presentation is thought-provoking and offers practical advice that our students can use in their daily lives.
High School Sports Kickoff:
High school sports begin on Tuesday, September 3. Our Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball teams will travel to Riverside to compete against Riverside and Jefferson County North in Northeast Kansas League contests. The matches will begin at 5:00 PM. Come out and support our Chargers!
Student Picture Day on Wednesday, September 4:
Student pictures will be taken on Wednesday morning, September 4. Vo-Tech students should make sure to get their pictures taken before heading to Vo-Tech that morning. Please remind your student to dress appropriately and bring their best smile!
Varsity Football on Friday, September 6:
Our Varsity Football team will play against Valley Falls on Friday, September 6. The game will take place in Valley Falls and will begin at 7:00 PM. Let's show our Charger pride and cheer on our team to victory!
Weekend Sports Events:
Saturday, September 7, will be a busy day for our athletes. The Varsity Volleyball team will participate in a tournament at Jefferson County West starting at 8:00 AM, and our Cross Country team will compete in Marysville, with races beginning at 9:00 AM. Best of luck to all our student-athletes!
Upcoming Event – Parents Night on September 12:
Mark your calendars! On Thursday, September 12, our High School Counselor, Lindsey Hughes, will be hosting a Parents Night for seniors and their parents. This event will cover important topics such as college and/or career planning, scholarships, FAFSA, and more. It’s a valuable opportunity to get the information you need as your student prepares for life after high school.
Thank you for your continued support of Horton High School. We look forward to a fantastic week ahead!
Sincerely,
Larry Mills
