What an exciting week for the Chargers! Our Volleyball team kicked off the season with two impressive NEKL victories. They swept Jefferson County North and Riverside, winning both matches in two straight sets. These are fantastic wins against strong competition!
Our Charger Football team also had a great start, dominating Valley Falls with a 38-8 victory. It was a solid team effort, with the Chargers excelling in all phases of the game. Congratulations to all our athletes!
In addition to their high school coursework, some of our Junior and Senior students are taking advantage of the opportunity to enroll in college courses. Bryan Hirsch, our Social Studies teacher, is instructing College American History, and Angela Bush, our 11th/12th-grade ELA teacher, is leading College Public Speaking. Both courses are taught in person and offer college credit through Highland Community College. Currently, 18 students are enrolled in College American History, and 20 are taking College Public Speaking.
These are concurrent enrollment courses, meaning students earn both high school and college credit. On top of these in-person classes, many of our Seniors are taking advantage of additional online college courses, with 25 classes being completed through Highland Community College and Allen County Community College.
In addition to these opportunities, we have 7 students enrolled in the Highland Vo-Tech program in Atchison, where they attend classes every morning. We also have 10 students participating in Work Study, gaining real-world experience by working at specific jobs in the area for 2-3 hours each school day. Furthermore, 6 of our students are working as Teacher Assistants at Horton Elementary School, supporting both staff and younger students.
It’s wonderful to see our students excelling in academics, athletics, and taking steps toward their future careers!
