Welcome Back!
I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged, and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.
All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). The new windows have been installed, new doors for the old wing have been hung, and the new HVAC units are producing cool air. The new exterior doors and security system have been placed which will have visitors buzz into the office for entry. The custodians have been working hard to get everything ready for our staff and students.
We will have a few changes this coming year. Our practices and after-school tutoring that are located in Everest will be released at 5:15 pm and a bus will transport the students to the grade/high school in Horton. Due to the cost of fuel, activity buses to the boys/girls club, Powhattan, and Willis will not be available this year.
We will be using a new assessment tool this year called Fastbridge. This program dives deep into your student’s learning through a combination of Computer Adaptive Tests (CAT) and Curriculum-Based Measures (CBM) to screen students, identify skill gaps, and offer proven recommendations for instruction and diagnostic interventions. Our district also adopted Overcoming Obstacles as our new Social Emotional Learning program: The skills that will be taught include: Communicating Effectively, Making Decisions, Setting Goals, Studying Effectively, Resolving Conflicts, and more.
With the national shortage of teachers, we realize how lucky we are to have the knowledge, compassion, and experience that our teachers at Everest Middle School possess. Our students will have an amazing year, not only learning from these professionals but also creating relationships that they will never forget.
