Lois Lancaster is a big-city journalist writing about the current state of mental health facilities. Her research takes her to a hospital populated with a unique group of quirky inmates who imagine they are crime-fighting superheroes. Speed Freak thinks he can run at incredible speeds, while Dim Bulb, the most enthusiastic person on the face of the earth, thinks he has the ability to turn off lights with his brain. Mental thinks she can read minds, despite being prone to sudden outbursts of bizarre non-sequiturs. Kevin, much less quirky and flamboyant than the other inmates, doesn’t embarrass himself with a ridiculous code name or costume...at least, not initially. Dr. Gail Eisner appears to be a kindly hospital administrator, a steady influence needed to effectively run a madhouse like this one. At first Lois finds their elaborate superhero fantasies to be an entertaining diversion, the wild delusions of unstable minds, until something unusual happens that makes her wonder.
The Kansas State Department of Education is looking for feedback.
At the June 2021 Kansas State Board of Education meeting, Commissioner of Education Randy Watson announced the establishment of a Graduation Requirements Task Force, which include members of the State Board of Education, business leaders, curriculum directors, high school principals, counselors, teachers, KSHSAA, local boards of education and superintendents, charged with examining graduation requirements in Kansas from at least three different lenses:
Additional courses or deletion of courses required for graduation (if any).
Examination of competencies and multiple ways to show mastery of skills which allow students to move at their own pace and time.
Examination of any additional requirements in addition to the high school diploma (value-added assets such as industry recognized certificate, college credits, etc.)
Today, we’re asking for your feedback to help guide the work of this group. Please use the QR code to complete a short survey regarding your thoughts on Kansas’ high school graduation requirements.
The deadline to submit feedback is April 15.
There will be no Baseball or Softball practice tonight, 3/22/22.

#ICANHELP is set to deliver a powerful presentation on the importance of digital safety to more than 395 students at Horton on March 28. The presentation will highlight how students and adults can maintain a positive digital footprint and be a Digital First Responder in order to navigate around a digital world and provide a curriculum in which these students will spread the message.
#ICANHELP is a non-profit corporation that educates on the proper use of social media, empowers students to deal with conflict, negativity, and harassment online. It will also instruct students and adults on how to “We don’t usually think of it, but just like the way negativity can spread, people can be swayed or encouraged when the majority are doing ‘good’ online. Students just need to be shown how to respond to the negativity. We need to empower our future generation to take action against all the issues that are arising with technology,” says co-founder Kim Karr. “Through #ICANHELP students are learning that kindness is saving lives and it doesn’t have to be anything big- a simple smile or a nice post-it note on a locker might be all it takes.”
