A big thanks to Cheryl Soderlund for meeting with our senior girls today about the P.E.O. Scholarship. Cheryl is a member of the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Chapter EE in Horton. She is also one of our kindergarten teachers at Horton Elementary.
The P.E.O. is "a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, awards, grants, loans and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations."
Two Horton High School senior girls will be awarded a P.E.O. scholarship ($250) this year at Comus Award Night on Friday, May 12. Scholarship applications are due to Ms. Stone by Thursday, April 20.

On Saturday, April 15th, students involved in music at Horton High School traveled to Benedictine College to perform in the KSHSAA Regional Solo/Small Ensemble Festival. Included in the image are the results from the Vocal Division. These students worked incredibly hard and came away with amazing results, including 2 state qualifying vocal solos! Stay tuned for April 29th when these two students will travel to Gypsum, Kansas to perform at the KSHSAA 3A State Solo/Small Ensemble Festival!
Ms. McManus is incredibly proud of these students and the amazing work they put in! No matter the score, they sounded beautiful and received many compliments from other directors about their sound and impressive stage presence!
Our work isn't quite over yet with these ensembles either, the Combined Charger Choir will be traveling to Atchison again this Thursday for the KSHSAA Large Ensemble Festival to perform a few more selections before we totally get to switch over to pops mode!
The KSHSAA Regional Solo & Small Ensemble Festival was hosted by Benedictine College in Atchison on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Three students from the Horton High School band prepared solos for the event. Taylor Dvorak-clarinet, Courtney Cline-clarinet, and Tori Jelks-Horn all played wonderfully and qualified for the KSHSAA 3A State Festival by receiving 1 ratings. They will perform at SE of Saline HS on April 29th. Congratulations on excellent performances! The entire band will perform Thursday April 20 at the KSHSAA State Large Group Festival in Atchison.
